Evernote goes Free with Penultimate 4 on iPad, adds new features

Evernote goes Free with Penunltimate 4 on iPad, add new features

Evernote on 31st released an update for its digital handwriting App, Penultimate 4.  Whats more, the App which used to cost $0.99 (Rs.55.00) earlier has now been made free by Evernote.

Most users may have both Evernote and Penultimate, hence probably know that they are one of the most popular Apps around for iPad.

The new App, Penultimate 4 has a all new interface which is cleaner and uncluttered. In the current, important functions are more accessible while the ones used less frequently have been put moved into a menu. Evernote has said on its blog that the "ink" within the app is sharper, smoother and more natural than ever, perfect for jotting and sketching.

Other advantages of the new version are that now users can connect and sync content from Penultimate with Evernote. Using this new feature, Penultimate notebooks corresponding to different Evernote notes can be created and maintained without any extra effort. The two apps have been given a greater integration with the introduction of a feature to search for content present in handwritten notes. Users can tap on a magnifying glass icon and search results get displayed with the search terms highlighted with yellow rectangles.

The search can be however be delayed as the handwriting is processed at Evernote's servers,  You can sync all your existing notebooks from Penultimate 4 with backup on Evernote servers.  Larger files which can't be synced can be stored locally on your iPad.

Which means that the notebooks are forever available to you at any time.  Notes created using Penultimate can be synced with Evernote by tapping on a new sync icon located at the bottom right corner of the notebook cover.

The blog post adds,

“In Evernote, Penultimate Notebooks are mapped to individual notes. This way, all of your ideas about a single topic are inside of a single note. It’s a good practice to create multiple notebooks for different meetings, clients, classes, etc.”

The notebook can be partitioned into different parts that can be synced separately. This allows for syncing only the required notes.

However if you want privacy, you can opt out of Evernote Server's sync options.

Download the App here at Apple Store.  Please note that this App is only for iPads running of iOS 6, the company has stated that update of similar kind will soon be released for iPads running on earlier iOS 5.
