Play Google's Racer using 5 phones using iOS and Android with Chrome

Play Google's Racer using 5 phones using iOS and Android with Chrome
This is one experiment which all mobile phone users should love.  Google had just launched a new experimental game with Chrome. Called the Racer, it uses the Google Chrome so no matter if you are using Android or iOS you can play this racing game involving multiple devices.

Google displayed this game yesterday at Google I/O in order to showcase the Chrome's ability sync the Android and iOS devices together.  And sure it did!  The aim of the game is to control the tiny cars on the track created on separate phones which become one when brought together.  The above pic shows three phone interconnecting the tracks but you can connect up to five devices together to run Racer.

And to play this game you just need Chrome Browser installed on all the phones or tablets.  If you are interested to check out the new Google experiment go g.co/racer with your mobile devices and follow the instructions to set the game up.

You only need to control these cars when they appear on your device’s screen. Touch the screen to accelerate and release the brake. You will require a bit of practice before can get hold of the controls.  This in fact is a decent experiment where one can just start   the game within a browser and play with his or her friends.

Chrome users will also like its earlier arcade style game called the Super Sync Sports.  The browser based games are a future which up to now has not been fully exploited.  So go play this one!  Google Play is already giving unlimited songs to its US users and with the Google Play Games hub coming soon, we have plenty to look forward to this summer!

Meanwhile you can visit here to find out all the latest games for all kinds of phones!

BlackBerry Messenger coming to iOS and Android soon, Thornsten springs a suprise after two hours of dull keynote
The BlackBerry Live 2013 was a dull affair up to point of no return and suddenly CEO Thorsten Heins sprung a surprise that sent the whole mobile community abuzz.  In what could be a make or break decision for BB10, the new operating system from the house of Blackberry, Heins broke the news that BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) will leave BlackBerry world and be launched on Android and iOS in coming months.

Right at the end of a nearly two-hour-long keynote address, Thorsten Heins broke the news that BBM is leaving the BlackBerry stables and will be available for Android and iOS in the coming months.   He also added that only iOS 6 or higher and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher users will be able to download the BBM App for free and get the best and secure messaging experience in the world.

Though as of yet only the messaging and group features can be accessed with the iOS and Android Apps, the non-BlackBerry users will be able to use the other premium services like BBM Video, BBM Channels, Screen Sharing and other functions over the later part of the year in a staggered manner.

Next in line was a new social media BBM Channels feature, which Heins announced for the BlackBerry users.  The BBM Channels is a way for celebrities, people, companies and brands to connect with fans and other like-minded individuals through a stream of content within BBM. The new service allows users to search for and subscribe to channels, comment and share posts with friends and also have one-to-one interactions with celebrities and brands. Users can also create and curate their own channels, and get metrics to track the amount of traffic their BBM posts receive.

Heins said that this service also was is currently in a beta stage and will gradually open up to more users. You can log on to www.blackberry.com/bbm/channels and sign up for the service if you are a BlackBerry user and enjoy the new social experience on Blackberry.

The BBM for iOS and Android dates are not yet divulged by the company, will keep you posted about the news and download links if anything shows up.

Gmail for iOS gets smarter, now open Chrome, Maps and YouTube from the Gmail itself

Gmail for iOS gets smarter, now open Chrome, Maps and YouTube from the Gmail itself

Google has just come up with a fascinating update for its native iOS App.  The update now lets users open the YouTube, Google Maps or  html links directly from the App.  Earlier, you had to go to the iOS native browser Safari to open all of these.  So no if you have your friend sending you his or her favourite YouTube video, you just have to tap the link and it will open in a Chrome window.

Thats not all, Gmail will now have a fall back button which will let you return to Gmail after you have watched the video, visited the maps or the hyperlink.  There will be a Gmail button in the Chrome which will instantly let you get back to Gmail.  Sounds fun.

However you have to enable the setting to get these brownies.  Go to the settings menu in Gmail and enable this new feature.  Be sure to select the default App for opening links to Chrome.
Gmail for iOS gets smarter, now open Chrome, Maps and YouTube from the Gmail itself
The new update has also changed the Gmail for iOS's sign-in settings.  It now lets you sign out of individual accounts.  This was a long awaited move from Google as earlier users with multiple accounts had to sign out of all.  This proved very irksome if you wanted only a particular account to be online.

The move will no doubt have repercussions within the Apple top hierarchy.  Because Apple sees Google as a worthy rival.  You will remember not long back, Apple had removed the YouTube from the default aps for iOS 6 when it was launched.  Google Maps was also initially not available with iOS 6, instead, Apple had launched its own mapping App.  That had caused a furore over the people landing in forests instead of the intended place.

The new Gmail features include the following for the uninitiated :

● Switch between up to 5 accounts
● Get notified of new mail fast, with notification center, badge and lock screen options
● Search through all your mail quickly - now with predictions as you type
● See profile pictures as part of the conversation
● Read your mail with threaded conversations
● Auto-complete contact names as you type from your Google contacts or your phone
● Respond to Google Calendar invites right from the app
● Read and respond to interactive Google+ posts right from the app
● Organize your mail by archiving, labeling, starring, deleting and reporting spam
● Send and receive attachments
● Customize emails with custom scribbles

But from Google and Google lovers point of view it is never so sweet.  You can make use of Google Maps, YouTube Apps and Chrome from the Gmail itself.  If you are interested, grap the App now from the Apple Store.

Kindly write in your views and comments on this new development from Google.

An App which tells you how to save your battery for Android and iOS devices

An App which tell you how to save your battery for Android and iOS devices

Your smart phone is a battery guzzler or you feel your smart phone drains more quickly then your friends one.  Then this is a App for you.  Available for both the Android OS and iOS, the App gently sits and watches your phone usage for a week.  After 'about a week' it advises you, what you can do to save your battery longer and biggest plus point is, it is free.

The unique thing about this App is it is based on kind of heuristics and gives you personalised recommendations on saving your battery.    The App doesn't run in the background as many surveillance Apps do, but rather you have open it every day for a week to let it know what your phone usage is.  It uses location services by displaying a little icon but does not use GPS however it does use internet.

At the end of the week it will give you the kind of information you need to save your battery to maximum.  As you use your device, Carat occasionally takes measurements and sends them to Carat backend servers in the cloud, where algorithms determine what steps you can take to use less energy. By collecting snippets of non-personal data from a large number of devices, Carat does not need to run continuously in the background.   Further information collected is not personal so your identity is safe.

Carat will tell you which apps it thinks are hogs (they use a lot of battery) and which are bugs (they use a lot of battery on your device but not most others). Being a hog or a bug does not make an app 'bad', but a user trying to improve their battery life can use these designations to adjust their behaviour.

The features of Carat include the following :
- Action List telling you how to improve your battery life and by how much
- Device information detailing exactly what data we are recording
- Reports apps that are using lots of energy and whether that is happening on other devices, too
- Detail views let you dive down into the data
- Low-overhead sampling requires almost no energy or CPU
- J-Score tells you how your battery efficiency compares to other users
- Sharing features let you post/tweet/blog about your experience; more users means more data which means better recommendations for you

So next time your phone drains earlier then a similar phone with your friend you know what to do.  Kindly download the iOS App from the Apple Store and Android users can download the app from the Google Play.

Kindly put in your comments on the App.

Now you can tag your photos with Instagram, welcome to the tagging paradise

Now you can tag your photos with Instagram, welcome to the tagging paradise

Tagging a photo or image was not possible up to now on the famous photo App Instagram. But with a update yesterday, it too has joined the tagging party.  On Thursday, Instagram updated its popular App for both the Android and iOS devices bringing in the new feature 'Photos of You'.

The 'Photos of You' feature lets you tag the photos of your friends, things and yourself.  Many of the users who were sorely missing this feature will now have nothing complain about.  Instagram a unit of Facebook since 2012, was expected to let users tag their photos as Facebook allows it.  Instagram has over 100 million users for both iOS and Android devices combined.

Now after the update, when you upload a photo using the App,

"you can add the people and things in the photo as easily as you add a location and hashtags,"

This was informed to the press by Instagram yesterday through a press release.  Further if someone else tags you, even on Facebook, you will receive a notification and the tagged photo will appear in the 'Photos of You' section.  Quite neat. There is a privacy setting also available for those who don't like their photographs on the internet fish market.  You just have to tweak the settings on the app and kaboom the photos wont appear on your profile till you approve them.

Download the latest update with the 'Photos of You' feature, for Android devices from the Google Play here and for iOS devices from the Apple Store here.

Enjoy clicking.

"Yahoo!" update with the Summly integration comes to Android a month after it was launched for iOS

Remember my post on the Yahoo! for iOS, well the company, Yahoo has gone ahead and updated the App for Android as well.  Integrating the Summly, the Yahoo! App version 1.0.0 gives you the latest news  on the fly.  The Yahoo app is a news App adept at bringing you the the latest headlines, bringing more personalization to your news feed, quick summaries for easy reading, and viewer friendly article pages with photo backdrops.  Like the iOS App once again I remind you that this App is only for news and only news so don't expect anything other than news from it.
"Yahoo!" update with the Summly integration comes to Android a month after it was launched for iOS

Yahoo! App promises to bring “you the best of the web in a virtually endless stream of personalized stories.” Yahoo claims that the app will learn your usage pattern and will start showing you stories that its algorithms think are relevant to you.    Thus the more you watch the news relating to your interest the more easier it becomes for the App based on your usage patterns.  Staying abreast with the latest news has become so important now a days after the Boston Marathon and the Earthquakes in Iran and Kashmir.

"Yahoo!" update with the Summly integration comes to Android a month after it was launched for iOSMarissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo! seems to have taken Yahoo to a new heights.  Written off by pundits a few years ago, Yahoo seems to have reinvented itself under the CEO Mayer.  Now in direct competition with Google,  with this App the Yahoo! which already has messenger and weather Apps for Android adds another feather to the cap.

You can download the App here from Google Play.  You can also download the Messenger from the same page if you have already not downloaded it.  Kindly write in what you feel is good about this App and what other Apps you would like Yahoo! to deliver.

Yahoo for iOS devices a new way to watch the latest news

Yahoo for iOS devices a new way to watch the latest news
Yahoo on Tuesday updated its App for iOS without any hype or hoopla.  The new Yahoo is version 3.0 and gives you a handsome feast of the latest news as and when it happens.  This together with the fact that the App is free is sure to be a must have App for you.  As you all recall what happened during the Boston Marathon, it is imperative that you have access to the latest news and Yahoo gives a very good audio visual experience on that front.

The Yahoo app is very much focused on news and the latest headlines, bringing more personalization to your news feed, quick summaries for easy reading, and viewer friendly article pages with photo backdrops.  Once again I remind you that this App is only for news and only news so don't expect anything other than news from it.

Users have the option to view headlines in a clean list as per their preference or choose the default layout.  The App also features a visual view of the news. The clean list is great for quickly scanning headlines which you have to pull down to refresh.  But by hitting the menu button in the upper left, you can flip a switch to turn the visual news feature on.

The brief summaries are made by Summly, a company Yahoo acquired just a month earlier.   The app also uses parallax scrolling to make the headlines scroll slightly faster than the background image to give the news feed a feeling of depth.

All in all a must have App for iOS devices.  If you are interested you can download the App here from Apple Store.

Kindly comment in on the App.

Swype now available for Android devices after giving 3 years of beta releases

Swype now available for Android devices after giving 3 years of beta releases
Swype the original swiping keyboard is now officially launched for Android devices.  After 3 years of beta releases and Apk, Swype today was finally made available on Google Play with a hitch though.  It is a paid App and costs around $0.99(Rs.54.00) to buy. However the good news is that there is a Free trial version which you can check out before thinking of buying this App.  Another word of caution is that Swype is giving out App for $0.99 for a limited time as a promo sale.

The App comes with a bunch of features, including Living Language and Next Word Prediction. Living Language crowd-sources and updates your dictionary with the latest trending words. Living Language also further localises your dictionary with an additional dialect supplement for your preferred language.  In essence you along with your friends build up this dictionary.

Next Word Prediction predicts the words you might want to type after your current one. After prolonged use, it learns your typing habits and starts recommending entire sentences that you are likely to type. For example if you swype I will it will automatically fill in be late in you office SMS.

There are also features like personal dictionary backups and syncing, dictation using Nuance's Dragon technology and the Smart Editor, which analyses entire sentences for any errors, grammatical or spelling.  The keyboard essentially works by letting you slide across the letters instead of tapping. The keyboard’s built-in dictionary automatically detects what words you might have been typing depending on what letter you stop your finger over. This potentially speeds up typing since you don’t have to lift your finger at all while typing a word.

You can add your own words to the dictionary by typing them out. After the first time, you can Swype the word whenever you want. This also applies to complex alpha-numeric keys such as passwords or emoticons. Swype also has gestures that let you access alternate keyboards really fast. For example, sliding your finger from the Swype key to the T key will bring up the numpad to let you type numbers faster.

This will be a wonderful addition to your Android smartphone and might make you a little lazy but it will also give you thumbs the much needed rest.  Check out the promo video put out by Swype.

If you like what you see then you can download the Swype App from Google Play Store.  Do comment in on the same.

How to install Facebook home on your Android Phone including an unsupported one

How to install Facebook home on your Android Phone including an unsupported one
If you are a Facebooker and spend more than 5 hours a day on Facebook then the Facebook Home is a must have App for you.  However it is sad that the Facebook is rolling out the App in a staggered manner so if you do not reside inside the US of A then you cannot download Facebook Home via Google Play.    However the Android development community which is known to be very enterprising and forthcoming have come up with a very easy solution.  Instead of the official channel just download the Apk file and enjoy the Facebook Home till it officially arrives on your mobile.

First things first, you need a 720p display smartphone running on Android and a good internet connectivity phone.  So if you have a HTC One, Samsung S III, Note II etc you can go ahead with the procedure.

The next thing which you need is a file managing App which lets you access your SD card and/or internal memory.  Download the App called Astro File Manager here from Google Play.  Now Go to the setting > Applications > Unknown Sources and click the small window in there.  This will let you install the App bypassing the Google Play.  Next thing you need is the Apk file for the Facebook Home.  Download the Apk File from here(courtesy Team MoDaCo).
How to install Facebook home on your Android Phone including an unsupported one

Load the file from the Astro File Manager and enjoy Facebook Home on your supported phone.

If you dont have a supported phone that is your phone doesn't have a 720p display, don't be disheartened there is a workaround for that too but remember you wont be able to enjoy the full benefits of Facebook Home.  Also remember phone without 720p display is fine but you need a internet connection for this App and this App is a big data hogger.

If you have a unsupported phone first you have to download the Facebook App Apk from Team MoDaCo here and then get the Facebook Messenger App Apk from Team MoDaCo here.  Next download the Facebook Home Apk for unsupported phones from here.  Now with the help of Astro File Manager install these Apks one by one in the same order which I have posted and there you have it, the Facebook Home.

I have already written the review of Facebook Home which please read here.  The Facebook Home is a very good App if you are active Facebooker because the Chat Head always remains on top of the screen no matter if you are watching a movie, playing a game or  using a application.

Please write in your comments regarding the above tutorial.

Just.me for iOS devices a all in one App for messaging, social networking and cloud storage

Just.me for iOS devices a all in one App for messaging, social networking and cloud storage
Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp just got a competitor in the form of Just.me.  Launched by a Silicon Valley veteran, Keith Teare, on Wednesday Just.me for iOS is a App which will combine email, multimedia messaging and cloud storage in a single iPhone app.

Just.me is backed by Google Inc's venture arm and True Ventures.  And if it plays its card right will be a headache for  Whatsapp, Kik, and Wechat and further dampen the already slowing usage of Facebook in the US.

Just.me's features include

✔ enables you in a single message together with text to include multiple photos, videos, and voice messages
✔ allows you to be unlimited – text as much as you want, add the media you choose, and message as often as you’d like, all for free
✔ gives you a choice of who to message – by integrating your iPhone address book into the app and enabling all of your contacts to receive messages – even if your contact does not have "just me" themselves
✔ recognizes that sometimes sharing is too much so "just me" lets you save messages as private, for your eyes only
✔ understands that sometimes sharing with contacts is not enough so "just me" lets you post publicly, including to Facebook and Twitter
✔ "just me" puts you in full control over who sees and uses your messages and media each time you save, send or publish a message

GETTING STARTED

Create your own disposable telephone number in addition to existing number for temporary use on Android

Create your own disposable telephone number in addition to existing number for temporary use on Android

I have always felt a need for a temporary number to talk or text to someone, whom I don't want to give my real number but obtaining a non listed number is very very difficult.  You may also have felt a similar need.  Now the App called Burner will solve your problem and give you a temporary disposable number which you can use as much as you want and than simply dispose off.  Sounds very fairy tale kind but it is real.

The burner is already catering to iOS users and now they have launched the service for Android and it is pretty easy to use.  This is a must have FREE App for you if you have a Android phone.  Burner provides disposable phone numbers at the push of a button. Make calls and send texts from temporary phone numbers. Receive calls, texts and voicemails on your Burner disposable phone numbers. Find a number in any area code.  You then get the following from the App :
✓ One free Burner
✓ Incoming and outgoing voice calls
✓ Incoming and outgoing text messages
✓ Voicemail
✓ Earn free credits for inviting your friends
Burner is perfect for any time you want to keep in touch, but may not want to give out your personal, private phone number. Temporary phone numbers are ideal for:
✓ Dating
✓ Job searches or multiple business lines
✓ Short-term projects
✓ Doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other professionals
✓ Craigslist (buying or selling)
✓ Social networks (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Foursquare, etc.)

After you have exhausted your free Burner number you have to purchase another if you need one.  This can be done by earning free credits by inviting your friends or outright purchase. The purchased number is a bit costly, the most basic level cost $2 bucks gets you 3 credits, which is good for a “Mini Burner" or a number that lasts 7 days, 20 voice minutes, or 60 texts.

The App itself is very simple all you have to do after installing it is to tap the button "Create Burner".  In the window you have to pick an area code and choose which number(obviously your own) your new burner should forward to. Click another button, and you’re done. Now you have go a Burner Number which is a new, secondary phone number that connects to your real number, and it can be used to send and receive both calls and texts. When you’re done, you just trash the number and forget about it.

A video tutorial explaining Burner is given below:

You can download this beautiful and useful App from the Google Play.  Please post in your comments
