Cheaper Mobiles and Tablets by March 2013, Mr.Sibal says so

In my earlier blog I had informed my readers to wait to wait till March 2013, before buying a new smart phone.  Now the Government has decided to pitch in to help you get your phone around Rs.2000.00-3000.00 cheaper after the Budget 2013.    This may or may not happen but keep your fingers crossed.  Mr.Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications is saying that mobile phones and tablets will be declared as goods of special importance under the Central Sales Tax (CST) Act. 

Sibal, who has written to a committee of state finance ministers with this proposal.  PTI reports today said that, "Considering the huge potential that mobile phones and tablets have in transforming the overall development of the country... Sibal has requested that the Empowered Committee of the State Finance Ministers may consider the proposal to declare mobile phones and tablets as goods of special importance under the CST (Central Sales Tax) Act of 1956."

Mr.Sibal has also requested state chief ministers to include mobile phones and other electronic products used for Internet access under the category as approved under National Policy on Electronics, 2012.

If the above proposal is agreed to by the Central Government and the various State Governments your favourite phone or tablet may be cheaper by 7 to 8 % which is indicative decline of Rs.2000.00 to 3000.00.

So please postpone your mobile buys till March, 2013.  If and when it happens you will be the first to know.  Please post your comments on this article.
