ICE App for women and elderly citizens in distress for Android

Kindly refer to my blog dated 25.12.2012, wherein I had given details about a App to use in case of danger.  That App was mainly for Delhities.  Now Mumbai Police have launched a similar App for Android called ICE : Mumbai Police.

 This App known as ICE : Mumbai Police was launched today by Mumbai Police is for sending out a SOS if you feel you are not safe.  They have launched a Android version with iPad and Blackberry to follow soon. 

ICE : MP allows users to store critical information like contact details of family, doctors, medication required in emergency, blood group etc.  It also has some good tips for users.  It also helps users to find the nearest Hospitals in case of emergency. 

After downloading you will be prompted to give mobile numbers of the person to be contacted in case of emergency.  In case of an emergency you have to press the SOS button shown above.  The App will automatically send SMS saying - I am in distress, please help' to all the numbers you have given earlier along with the GPS co-ordinates of the location from where the message was sent.

The app can also pin point your location on Google Maps.   It further sounds a alarm for 30 seconds irrespective of the phones volume.

It is very good especially for elderly given the spate of robberies taking place in Mumbai.  Kindly teach the person (Elderly relative) how to use it so that it can be effective.

Personally I liked the App called ICE : In Case of Emergency by Appventive.  This is costly though for Rs.219.45 but it is far more effective and the biggest advantage it has is, it can be used even if the Phone is Pattern/Pin/Password locked, which realistically makes sense given the importance of timing in case of emergency.
