Forget buying Apple's iPhone from Dubai or Bangkok, it is now cheaper in India thanks to GST

GST Makes Apple's iPhone Cheaper in India Than Bangkok or Dubai.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) roll-out from 1 July still has a number of people confused as to its impact.  The prices of gadgets are uncertain, though mobile phone makers have said that they will absorb any additional cost. It seems the GST roll-out has a positive effect on the prices of Apple devices, as far as consumers are concerned anyway.

iPhone

The iPhone sees price cuts across the board. These cuts range from Rs 1,200 to Rs 6,600. But as you can see, depending on the model you’re looking for, you can get a better deal on Amazon and Flip-kart.

iPad

The iPad sees price cuts of around Rs 3,000, which isn’t much, but it’s still a discount. In this case, however, many of the models don’t seem to be available on e-commerce portals like Flipkart and Amazon.

Macs

The pattern repeats itself across the board. The Macbooks, for example, see discounts of Rs 11,800, which is seen on the most expensive MacBook Pro, the 15-inch model with a 512 GB SSD. The MacBook Air sees no price cut on Apple’s site, but you can shave quite a large chunk off its MRP if you visit Flipkart or Amazon.

The Mac Mini, for whatever reason, sees its price go up by up to Rs 2,110. This doesn’t make sense because the mini is already running 3-year old hardware. The Mac Pro sees a discount of around Rs 11,000, which is nice, but this is again a device running ancient hardware. The iMacs see a smaller discount of around Rs 1,000.

Apple Watch discounts are also small, around Rs 1,000, but the Apple Watch Edition does see a discount of Rs 5,200. Then again, that watch was priced at Rs 1,10,900 to begin with, so if you can afford it, you probably don’t care about the discount.
