Protecting future rapists and criminals, who is to blame

Protecting future rapists and criminals, who is to blame

On 10th Jan, 2013, the BMC undertook a massive campaign to remove illegal hutments and shanties build on the Dahisar mangrove area.  They managed to successfully razed around 1400 shanties despite opposition.  A true perspective

The slums which had come up in the Dahisar, which is supposed to be mangrove swamp since the year 2000.  The BMC decided to raze the shanties and with the help of Mumbai Police and successfully razed around half of them.  A half of them still remain.

The only problem with this razing was a local corporator and a MP came running all the way to oppose the move.  It is well known fact that these type of shanties give refuge to criminal and anti-social elements.  Many of the future rapist or murderers would have taken refuge in this shanties.  However the divisive and vote bank politics played by certain political parties may get them votes in the elections but it also creates a law and order situation where these anti socials create havoc in city.

If in future somebody gets raped or killed by someone staying in this shanties, the very same corporator and the MP would blame the Police for not doing its duty.  Whereas in the very first place these people are to be blamed for supporting such anti-social and anti-people shanties coming up in Government owned land and not letting the Police and Government agencies do their work.

I hope the Congress realises the futility of vote bank politics in Mumbai otherwise it may also never be able to form a Government in Maharashtra for next 20 years like Gujarat.

It is better for them to play the vote bank and caste politics at some far off place but please spare Mumbai.
