As predicted in my blog yesterday, Facebook today fired its latest salvo in the Search Engine space by announcing a New Graph Search feature. This was expected though Facebook loyalists wished for a Facebook Phone.
The new feature called the Graph Search will be rolled out within the end of this month. It is designed to lure Facebook's 1 billion and counting users hooked to to it through its search by allowing them to sift through the millions of images, posts and places uploaded every day. It may also give Facebook the necessary strategic space on its search webpage for advertisers making it a lucrative business proposition and at the same time challenging the king Google itself.
Facebook CEO unveiled the search engine with "This is one of the coolest things we've done in a while" quote at the packed press meet at Facebook's Menlo Park HQ.
The new feature will have a full sentence search feature which Google doesn't have as of yet, but Zuckerberg added that Graph Search is not a Web search and we can only view the content the Facebook users have upload.
Still the Wall Street didn't take the announcement highly as the Facebook shares lost some sheen through the trading day.
Please post your comments on what you expected from Facebook.
