Phones running on Android Operating System Platform are triggering spam messages as per USA Today. If you dont have a unlimited texting plan with your service provider, be ready to foot whopping bills for text messages and if you are a prepaid customer you should be losing money by the minute going by because unknown to you a Command and Control server based in Hong Kong is triggering spam through your phone.
Android users kindly note, a spammed text message is circulating all over the world infecting you handset and in turn making your handset send out spam.
This discovery by the Cloudmark Research doesnt come as a surprise as hackers where known to be looking into the security loopholes on Android platform for some time now.
Juniper Networks Mobile Security Researcher is quoted as saying
"The mobile threat continues to grow at a very rapid pace with threats only increasing in complexity"
Text Security firm Cloudmark Research has recently discovered a virulent spam campaign that is sending text messages to random users offering free version of popular games like Need for Speed Most Wanted, Angry Birds Space Wars, Grand Theft Auto etc. After the user installs these free apps or games, the user actually downloads and installs a hidden program which directly connects to the Command and Control Server based in Hong Kong. When the command server recieves feeds from your phone, it sends your handset a list of 50 phone numbers, for forwarding the copy of the message and instructions to execute the spam.
