TAX CREDIT understanding the budget 2013

Stock Markets on Budget day 2013.

The budget time is here and the stock markets are cheering.  The Nifty is up 40 points and Sensex is up 140 points with expectations of a good budget from Mr.P.Chidambaram, the Finance Minister of India.

But like yester year of 2012, this will be a status quo budget.  It has will promise a lot but deliver none.  And the Sensex and Nifty will be down atleast 30 and 100 points respectively.

The Nifty as I see it, will go back to 5600 in near term.

Get back to you after the budget.

Vijay Prabhu

As I had predicted in my blog early morning, the budget was a no show.  Mr.Chidambaram had played his cards in the month of October, 2012 by unleashing variety of bold reforms,  and  as such had nothing up his sleeve to give to country.  But the salaried people working in middle management and lower, were hoping some kind of relief would be given.  Either in form of increasing the slab from current Rs.2.00 lakhs to something more tangible or increase some other deductions.

But the Finance Minister stuck to his guns and refused any relief in the slab.  However there are two important items in the budget which will have an impact on your taxes.

1.  Tax credit of Rs.2000.00  : If your total income is less than Rs.5.00 lakhs you will be able to avail a tax credit of Rs.2000.00. In other words the FM has raised your slab from Rs.2.00 to 2.20 but without the benefits of the limits like reduction in surcharge etc.

2.  The buyers buying a house on home loan will get another Rs.1.00 as deduction if they purchase a new home in the period 1.4.2013 to 31.3.2014.  Also it should be their first home loan.

Other than this the Finance Bill 2013-14 was a super flop with the Nifty losing 100 points and Sensex losing almost 300 points.

Someone Stalking you, calling you in the middle of night, check this out

One of my readers from United States, Iliara, has sent me a mail regarding this WebApp.  Called Whooming, this App is particularly useful if you are being stalked or harassed by a unknown callers.  The other apps available like Truecaller give you the identity of the callers but do nothing to stop the caller.  Where others can't go, this App treads there.  It takes over the call and gives the caller a pre-recorded message.  Whats more, this App supports all mobiles and land lines in select countries.

Firefox Operating System for smart phones from Mozilla

Firefox Operating System for smart phones from Mozilla

The Mobile World Congress was used by Phone manufacturers to display their latest products and use the opportunity to bask in the limelight.  One thing worth noticing from MWC 2013 was that many phones were announced, but the operating system on almost all phones was Android save the Nokia's announcement of its entry level phones Nokia 105, 301 and the mid level Lumia 720 & 520 Windows Phone.   Will it be the same in MWC 2014.  I beg to differ.  The Mozilla's Firefox OS is entering the smart phone OS in a big way and next MWC may see as many as 20 different phones featuring Firefox OS.

7th Pay Commission for Central Government Employees

7th Pay Commission News
In continuation to my blog dated 24.2.2013, I have come across news reports and rumours floating around that the Government is going to grant an Interim Relief of upto 20% as a precursor to the constitution of 7th Pay Commission.

I again bring to the notice of the Central Government Employees that nothing of this sort will happen.  The reason being that the Government doesn't have the will, the majority or the amount of money needed to give such kind of relief to the employees.

Further I also heard employees asking on various fora about the merging of Dearness Allowance with Pay on reaching 100 %.  First of all, the DA would reach 100 % only in July 2014, and the Justice Srikrishna Commission on 6th Pay had emphatically ruled against the merger of DA which the Government had accepted while approving the 6th Pay Commission Report.

This are all rumours based on heresay and hypothesis like the one which floated in the 2010 regarding introduction of Grade Pay of 3200.00 between the 2800.00 and 4000.00 grade pays.  While that seemed logical given the vast difference of 1200.00 between the two scales, the same did not materialize.  Same way, there isn't any proof that Interim Relief or merger of DA may be on cards.

The merger is impossible but interim relief may be possible in the year 2016 that too, if the inflation goes through the roof.  Expecting something foolhardy will only make the employees unhappy in the long run.

Please read the 6th CPC report carefully before asking any mergers etc.

Education system in India, going commercial or going worse

http://www.adhyapak.com/mumbai/mumbai-international-schools.html

Until a few years ago there were only public schools and private schools.  The private schools were either aided or unaided.  The aided schools received grants from the Government for operations, therefore they were relatively cheap.  The unaided schools were only for the uber rich in India.  This was a simple classification of schools.  However after the reforms in 1991, this is one sector which has caught the fancy of every political leader and business man.  They opened a school in their forefathers name.  Nothing wrong with that but due to their entry, but this has led to crass commercialization in the education sector.
